Battling life!

I was already late to the office and was running around the platforms in the Kempegowda bus stand to catch my bus. I missed my Volvo and caught the regular bus 365.
To my good fortune, the bus was not that crowded and hence found a comfortable seat . There was an elderly couple almost aged more than 70 years easily sitting next to me.

The traffic was too much and the bus was moving in snail pace.
With my restless behavior and nothing else to do, started the conversation with them.
They were simple people from a small village near Chitradurga and they had come to Bangalore for health check up.
With more digging in ,they told me their story- The elderly woman who was 70 + had a tumor in stomach.and they were going to KIDWAI hospital for check up.The elderly man told that his yearly income  was around  Rs 50,000/yr if the crop gives good returns .
They had already shelled more than 70,000 for this diagnosis in  Private hospitals. And they were not able to afford for this treatment.

Then they used the BPL(Below Poverty Line) card that is provided to all people with lesser income.
Because of this card, their treatment was free and the old woman underwent the operation and her tumour was removed. And now they were going for monthly check up to KIDWAI.
They just had to spend a minimal amount for medicines and rest was taken care by the Government.

I was surprised and also felt proud of the Government, who has provided these facilities to the rural people or else it would have been so tough for them to battle a disease like that.

Most of the times we don't see these things and appreciate but always wait for an opportunity to criticize the government.
I smiled at them and waved goodbye when they got down and felt happy about our government
